Amana Refrigerator Problem

About a 2 months ago I noticed my Amana refrigerator & freezer were not that cold. Its a Self defrost type with the freezer on the bottom, I cleaned it out , removed the back panel where I found the coil area All frosted over and frozen up with ice. I used a blow dryer to remove the ice and put it all back together. Worked fine for 2 months and now I notice the ice and frost is starting to build back up so I removed the panel again and this time checked the defrost timer, it appeared to be working and turning, I also tested the defrost heater unit and it would work only if I bypassed the defrost thermostat, and I noticed the defrost thermostat has filled with ice and water and like exploded outward. So I have to get a new defrost thermostat for it, but I cant get the unit to stop running, the temperature in the freezer gets to 0 and the fridge gets to 38 like it suppose to, If I try to lower the temp on the thermostat in the freezer, it will not shut it off until I turn it to 0 or off..

Would you say that the thermostat in the freezer is also bad casing the unit to keep running? or can the defrost thermostat cause this to keep the refridge to keep running?

I would replace the defective thermostat first to see if that solves the problem.

The Defrost Thermostat Is Definately Bad, And Could Be The Reason For Such A Long Run Time... When The Refrigerator Doesn't Defrost, Ice Build Up Restricts The Air Flow Causing The Thermostat Not To Get Cold Enough To Shut Down The Cooling Cycle... Change The Defrost Thermostat And See What Happens... K
