I have an old GE fridge. The ice maker makes crescent shaped ice. Everything works fine - no leaks, etc. Only problem is that it won't start the cycle without manual intervention.

If I lift the sensor wire up and back down, it'll dump the ice. Otherwise, the ice will just sit in the tray 'til I lift the wire. Any idea what it could be?

The sensor wire opens and closes the switch. During the cycle it apparently is not hitting the switch. You can remove the end of the ice maker and watch as you move the wire up and down and adjust it so that it pushes the switch more but not too much or it won't stop making ice. It'll just keep on dumping.
