Maytag repair. Are these parts necessary?

The water injector valve in my Maytag washer has started to leak. It looks like all it does is regulate the water flow into the tub. What would be the effect of bypassing this valve and simply connecting the two hoses at its ends with a piece of PVC pipe? What exactly does this valve do except regulate water pressure?

Water regulation is a good thing. Without it, you have a hose stuck into your dishwasher. I'd estimate that your kitchen would flood in roughly 3 minutes. Or were you planning to turn the valve on and off depending upon what cycle the DW is in?

No really, that thing is the water inlet valve and it gets the signal from the timer control to let in water. It then shuts off water flow when enough water has entered the DW. If it is leaking, it must be replaced. Fortunately, it isn't expensive and if you are inclined, you can replace it yourself. Go here for instructions on replacing the water inlet valve. Oops. I forgot to mention that this is a Maytag Washing Machine, not a dishwasher.

You did specify a washer, I just mistyped dishwasher in my reply; sorry. The water inlet valve is identical in function in both a dishwasher and a washing machine. Follow the link in the earlier post and then just navigate to the same topic in the washing machine section.
