Whirlpool Dryer Question

My whirlpool dryer is not working properly. I think it may be a bad belt, but I'm not sure. When I turn it on, it runs for about 10-15 minutes, and then slows down and stops, emitting a burning smell. If I try to start it right away, I hear a buzzing sound, and it won't start. If I let it sit for a little while, then I can start it up again, and perform the entire process over again.

I took the dryer apart today. After detatching the drum and the belt, I turned it on. The motor seemed to run okay with nothing attached. So, I put it back together, but it's still doing the same thing as before. Any suggestions? Should I try a new belt, or does it sound like the motor, or an overheating problem?

The dryer has a thermostat that senses when the dryer is overheating and in some models shuts down the whole dryer. Do your clothing seem to be overly hot when you check them?

If not, then I'd say your motor is overheating, possibly because the belt is too tight (or even too loose) or the something is making hte drum too hard to turn. The motor itself may simply failing.

I don't think that they're overly hot when I check them. The dryer turns off after only about 10 minutes.

For what it's worth, if there are no clothes in the dryer, it seems to run a little better.
