I have a Maytag gas dryer that is 2 years 2 months old and for the second time the gas valve needs to be replaced, the first time was when it was 14 months old. According to the repairman this is very unusual. They don't even keep them in stock as they don't need to be replaced even once but twice in 26 months is unheard of.

The dryer is used only for my husband and myself so it is not like it runs all day every day. Has anyone else had this problem and at this point I am trying to decide what to do. I paid $450 for the dryer and so far will have $250 in repairs in a little over two years--terrible.

Thanks!!!

It would be unusually bad luck to have this happen twice in that time. I agree with the repairman.

How old are the gas lines in your home. If you hae 30yr old galvanized pipes for gas lines, you may have debris in the gas line from rust or other mineral build-up.

Another thing to check is that when gas lines are connected to the dryer, a screw on connection is often used and as a seal teflon tape is wrapped on the male threads. If that tape was allowed to lap over the end, bits of teflon tape may be breaking off and clogging the gas valves.

Those are the two most likely causes I can think of.

One other would be power surges causing electrical damage to the valves. Have you had any other problem with power surges.
