The ice tends to melt together in the bin directly under the area where it falls from, if I don't take out chunks on time the whole left side frezes into one big chunk of cubes, then I have to chop it up to remove it? Any idea what is the problem, and how I could resolve it? its a side by side, 6+ years old
Thanks

Sounds like water is dripping onto the ice from the ice maker and freezing.

Water could be overflowing when it fills the tray in which case there should be an adjustment screw under the plastic housing of icemaker.

Ice could be partially blocking the fill tube or the inlet area of the icemaker. This could be caused by a leaking inlet valve which doesn't completely cut the water off after filling the tray. It could be so slow that It would be hard to detect.

Would replacing the unit likely solve the problem?, I understand they're not hard to replace (?) and not too expensive, ($95?) Also is a possible cause that the freezer temp is not cold enough?

Replaceing the icemaker wouldn't fix it if it's the valve leaking water. Both of the possible problems that I mentioned are easy fixes( free to mabe 10 dollars) ,but you need to observe where and when the water is coming from to determine the fix.

you need to check and see if the ice is hollow if it is you may need a new water valve if the ice is hollow when it dumps this may cause the ice to freeze togather

Is a ice mahine with a bin underneath ?

to me it sound as if it is not freezing before it goes into harvest (drop ice)
could be the timer , evaporator plate dirty.

when this happened to me it was because one of the ice cubes was not being emptied when the theing rotated. When it refilled there was too much water for the tay and it overflowed and clumped the already made ice together. I removed the ice tray, sprayed it with teflon, let it dry adn hen put it back.& discarded the first few cycles of ice

actually what has happened, I lowered the temperature in the freezer, and this has helped much, still clumps up, but nearly as bad
