Roughly 12 year old GE dishwasher hums but won't wash. My first attempt at finding a problem led me to think that the motor was seizing, so I turned it by hand. That solved the problem for a cycle or two, but not it's back. Is there some part of the motor that should be lubricated? SOmething else I can do to encourage it to run?
Thanks,
Frank

If it has a belt drive, check the belt. It should be tight but you should be able to deflect it by pushing gently on the span of the belt. Also make sure it is not worn or cracked.
If no belt, then the motor may be failing.
Alos, in the unlikely case that your motor uses a start capcitor, you should test it to make sure it is working.

Check the bearings, sometimes if a seal is slowly leaking water onto the bearings they rust up and seize. If thats the case, replace the bearings and seal.
