I recenlty came across a small freezer in great shape and only 4 years old. However when it is plugged in nothing happens. I would like to get this running but don't have a lot of money to put into it. Can someone tell me how and what to check to see what may be needed. I do have a multi meter....lol Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!! :)

Plugged in to a good socket ? ok now look for an on off switch. Probably the thermostat has an off position.

AcmeHowTo.com puts it like this.

AcmeHowTo.com (http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/freezer/diagfreezer.php)

* Make sure the freezer is plugged in
* Check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker
* Test the power outlet for current
* Inspect the electrical cord for damage
* Eliminate use of an extension cord, if any is being used
* Check the outlet voltage
* If power is reaching the electrical outlet, trace the freezer wiring and test components as you go. Either there is a short, which must be located and repaired, or the freezer has sustained electrical damage

I have tried the thermostat...no luck. I undid the screws and pulled the thermostat out far enough to look at it.....it does look very rusty though....is there any way to test this? If so what reading on my meter should I have? Thanks :)

Here is the description of how to check a thermostat from AcmeHowTo.com.
Note that there is a page two.
