I have a 3 year old SS Fridgerator that has worked fine until yesterday. It only makes a little bit of cold air, not much. I replaced the thermostat and that did not solve the problem. I found a blanket of dirt on the cooling coils and cleaned that up. I replaced the starter relay overload switch and that got the hydrostatic motor running again. I have cold air, enought to make ice cubes but it is not the same coldness as before. I have one hunch about what might be wrong. The new relay is universal and not OEM. It did not provide wiring to the capcitor, so I left that disconnected. Is this the reason I have little cold air. The motor runs but not as loud as before, like it is in low gear.

The capacitor is there to start the motor. If the motor starts without the capicitor, then no problem.
The compressor has only two states; on or off.
Check the evaporator fan in the back of the freezer to see if it is working
Check the coils in the freezer for ice.

If the fans are working and it freezes the products in the freezer than it is nothing to worry about.
Now the fridge if it is cooling your products it is ok.
Check the fridge temperature with a thermometer if is 5 degrees celcius or below it is fine.
With the freezer if it at -8 degrees celcius or below that is fine also.
