Hello,
I have a GE Profile, Radiant surface top, electric range. Model number JBP90WS1.

The problem is, the dual surface unit works intermittently.
When the surface unit is turned on and stays on it works fine.
When it's turned off even for a few seconds then turned back on,it will not work until the "Hot Surface Indicator Light" goes out. Then it well work fine until turned off. Then I have wait for the "Hot Surface Indicator Light" to go out again.

I'm thinking it's either the "Temperature Limit/Hot Light Switch" or the "/Dual Heating Element" itself.

The parts are expensive and difficult to get at. My question is, can anyone tell me how I can test these parts, before, or after I remove them, to find out which one is bad, before I buy the new part.

Thanks ,

Honestly, I am more inclined to think this is an electrical problem with the switch or the wiring. I believe the heat is causing thermal expansion and a connection is failing.

It certainly could be another component, if there is a high limit thermal fuse, then it could be faulty. The problem is that is seems to be a problem with the temperature range that it considers to be too high. It would be difficult to test other than to do a TEMPORARY bypass to see if the range operates. This must not be bypassed for regular operation or you might burn your home down.
