Ok i custom built my sytem about 5 months ago. For 3 months it ran fine and all was well. About 2 months ago my computer stopped recognizing my video card. I realized this when i clikc on background and went to settings and said (default monitor) on, instead of reading out my gfx card type. I try to play a game and it ays dirextx9.0 not supported. So I get my motherboard dixk that comes with the motherboard, install it, and run it again, same message. Then i asked myself what if theres something wrong with the driver, i go to ati's website, and diamonds website, download the drivers for my card, still same response.

Does anyone have any ideas on what happened or how to fix this problem.

From practical experience, in a situation like this I would delete any record of this card from my system and then pull the card physically out.

I'd restart using another basic video card and then continue to remove any mention of the problem video card from ths system.

Once I was satisfied that it was gone, I'd reinstall the problem video card and proceed like it was a brand new installation.

If that still fails, and you made no OS, driver or other relevant changes prior to the problem, then I would suspect the card might be bad. You could test it by installing it into another system.
