Whirlpool top loader washer

I have a Whirlpool top loader washer that agitates and spins at the same time during the spin cycle. Is this gear box related or could it be electronic?

If the drum is turning during the agitation cycle, then the drum brake is the most likely culprit. The gear box is often driven by a two way motor, which means it agitates in one direction or spins in the other.
