Default Toilet Handle

When I first moved in, a quick push down on the toilet handle would flush the toilet. Now, I have to hold it down for 3-4 seconds for the same result. Any ideas why?

Make sure the water level is high enough. The water holds the flapper in position till it drains out. Is the chain or plastic too long or too short. Remove the lid and observe the action.
