Hello,
A few days ago the dish washer (Kenmore/ GE) was switched on. After sometime I could smell a burning odor. Didn't quiet realize what it was, but the next day in the morning we noticed the dish washer was in the "Rinse" stage and noticed water collected in the tub, but the machine was not operational. We finally realized the burning smell was from the dish washer. I did a continuity test on the motor and it checked out fine. I did a continuity test on the motor inlet valve but it did not pass the continuity test. I called Sears support and they have quoted me $179 for a complete fix including one year warranty . This is too high.. Has someone gone through this same trouble. Any suggestions?? |

The inlet valve is easy enough to replace and the part is less than $50 I think.
However, rarely have I encountered an inlet valve that emitted a burning smell. So I'd expect there to be some other problem in there. But, if the inlet valve didn't pass the test, then it needs to be replaced. Plus, if it was stuck on the rinse cycle and the valve was out, then that is where the cycle would hang up. Burning smells usually come from a motor, a belt, shorted wiring or a heating element. So if everything else checks out, then go for replacing the valve. The instructions are included in our dishwasher repair section. Here is a link to our part store if you want to order from our partner. http://acmehowto.com/commerce/partstore.php |
