There are several possibilities, lid lock disengaging, some loose part hitting the cabinet or a loose drum spinning unevenly to a stop. It could also be the transmission disengaging.

If you are inclined to try and locate the problem, you'll need to use some detective skills. However, if it is the transmission, you may want to leave that to a pro, or even replace the washer as trnasmission work is expensive.
