Default Norge s/s refrigerator start relay

Had a new compressor start relay installed yesterday and repairman said it may work quite a while or may not. It died this a.m and when I checked the compressor it was HOT.
The tech said while installing the standard relay for that model that if it went he could return and install a " 3 way" relay that would kick more amps to the compressor and it would run again but no promise how long.

My question is this ...Is there such a thing as a " 3 way" relay and is it worth it to try or am I wasteing my money. If there is such a relay I will get it as I know how to put it in now.

Frige is a Norge (Maytag ?) side by side excellent condition 10 yrs old

Thanks

There is a second kind of relay that I know as a "Hard Start" which gives more power for the start up of the compressor and they do work. If he thought it might be needed, why didn't he just use that one in the first place?

Now I wonder why the compressor was hot. That implies it was running. If it was running, then the relay is not the issue. Do you hear the compressor running or not?

Also, installing the relay is pretty easy, we have instructions on our "How To". You might try doing it yourself and save the cost of a service call, unless he was going to come out at no additional charge.

Thanks for the reply...
I installed the "Hard Pack" and the fridge is working great .

Question....I want to hard wire the condenser motor so it runs all the time and think I know how to but would I be defeating the purpose?

I don't recommend hard wiring the condenser fan. It shouldn't be necessary.
